I ordered this kit to add solar power to our camping trailer. It came in two packages. The first came fairly quickly and contained the two panels. The second took a few more weeks and contained everything else. Eager to try it out, I got an old car battery that still had some life in it and hooked it up. It took about a half hour, including reading instructions. It got the battery up to a full charge quite quickly - about 3-4 hours. To change settings on the charge controller, you have to hold the selection button in for about 10 seconds. The + and - leads are labeled on the panels which makes it easy to figure out the rest of the connections. The real killer feature for this kit is it's price. At the current $289, it's about the price you'd pay for the panels alone. The controller is nothing special, but it does it's job just fine. I saw a youtube video comparing mppt and pwm controllers and realized that for my application there's no need for the mppt. Unfortunately, I can't test the system more thoroughly yet. I have a marine deep cycle battery that got very badly discharged and needs replacing. Once I replace that, we can hook up the fridge and everything else to really give it a workout.Update: I replaced the old battery with a 120 aH deep cycle marine battery from Costco and it works perfectly for our needs. We did a 2 1/2 week trip and it did admirably even on days with 50% or more cloud cover.Update #2: Almost two years later and I still have positive things to say about this system. We took it on a four month trip to Mexico and it ran our fridge, lights, fans and everything else pretty well. The only problem was with the 120ah battery. It really only has 60 usable amp hours, which doesn't last long enough for our fridge so I'm switching to LiFePo instead so I don't have to worry about drawing down the battery too much.Update #3: Winter 2022 in Baja California. I replaced the stock charge controller with a good brand name mppt controller and now have a 100 Ah LifePo4 battery. This is a much better solution and I never needed to turn the fridge off to conserve battery on the whole trip. The important upgrade was the battery. The new controller may give 5-10% more efficient charging some of the time but wasn't really necessary. The battery however, was a big upgrade.
